Log Cabin Patchwork

You’ll create a Log Cabin patchwork throw approximately 1m x 1m (40″ x 40″) using the “quilt-as-you-go” method, which is suitable for beginners but you must be able to sew with an accurate seam allowance. You’ll also need a “Quilting Bar”/ “Quilting Guide” for your sewing machine, to enable you to sew with an accurate 15mm seam allowance without using the guides engraved on your needle plate. These are inexpensive to buy – please ask me for more info if you’re interested.

The workshop is split into two half day sessions:

WORKSHOP (1)  I’ll show you how to sort out your colours and then how to create the “quilt-as-you-go” Log Cabin block. You’ll prepare your wadding and backing fabric, and then should have time to create 4 different blocks (squares).

At home, between the first and second workshop, you’ll make another 12 squares – 3 more of each of the original 4.

WORKSHOP (2) During the final workshop, I’ll show you how to assemble the squares, and how to attach the backing and finish off your quilt.

TIMES: 10am – 5pm. Tea/coffee and biscuits provided but please bring a packed lunch.

COST: €50

SEWING MACHINES: Either bring your own or use one of mine.

MATERIALS: You’ll need to bring all the required materials to the workshop.
