As a qualified Textiles teacher who has spent many, many years doing all types of sewing, I offer a range of both taught holidays, and holidays with little or no taught content – see “Sew-it-yourself” holidays below.
The holidays can be loosely categorised like this:
- Sewing holidays for complete beginners
- General sewing holidays
- Dressmaking holidays
- Patchwork holidays
- Textile Art holidays
- Hand embroidery holidays
- “Sew-it-yourself” holidays
There is further information on projects, skills etc, in the drop-down menu, under the heading “More info on holiday content”, but here’s a summary of the content/focus:
Sewing holidays for complete beginners – if you’ve never used a sewing machine, or it’s many years since you used one, you can come to Italy and I’ll teach you all the important basics. You can choose general sewing or dressmaking, it’s up to you.
General sewing holidays – I can teach you to make 2-3 different projects either for yourself or as gifts, which cover a variety of skills to extend your repertoire, or just to give you a new idea or to make something you haven’t made before.
Dressmaking holidays – for people with either no previous experience or with some experience – if you have previous experience you can choose which pattern/garment you want to make, or we can discuss before your holiday and I can advise and help you to make that garment.
Patchwork holidays – I am no patchwork expert, so any taught holidays tend to focus on making simple, fun, small-sized quilts, using pre-cuts such as jelly rolls, layer cakes or charm squares. If you’re a complete beginner, or if you have lots of experience, you can still extend your sewing skills and learn to make a quilt
Textile Art holidays – I’m hoping to expand this type of holiday during 2024; at the moment I offer Free Machine Embroidery/Free Motion Embroidery holidays.
Hand Embroidery holidays – At the moment I’m offering just Goldwork – I’m hoping to introduce other skills such as Sashiko, Crewelwork and Silk Shading later in 2024. Contact me for more info if you’re interested.
“Sew-it-Yourself” holidays – for these holidays, you bring your own projects to work on and I’m around to talk through the process/es, or for general advice if/when you need. They’re ideal for people with experience who just want to get away and have some uninterrupted, quality sewing time.
I’m a UK qualified teacher for ages 11-18 and am happy to teach your children too, if you want to bring them along, as long as an adult accompanies them to the classes.
We originally set up this business in France, as “Textile Holidays France” in 2016 and we’ve welcomed people from the UK, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Ireland, Spain, Greece and of course France… We moved to Italy in September 2020, but the opening of the business here was delayed because of Covid.
