Inspired my a book I bought in Arezzo before Christmas, “Small Wonders” by Serena Boffa Soda, I’ve been stitching a series of embroidered hexies. She uses patchwork fabrics, appliqué and embroidery to stitch decorative panels on quilts. I’ve been using painted and dyed fabrics and creating hexi pictures with poetry – written by a guest – stitched around the border. I’m developing this further, with mini patchworks made up of part machine stitched, part hand stitched, squares. Again, inspired by the landscape around me, and by our windows which have 6 panes of glass, and which often show completely different colours/images in each pane.
