Hand embroidery can be used to embellish a whole range of textile products – to hide a darned area on a favourite jumper, for example, to add interest and originality to a neckline on a shop-bought cardigan or jacket, to personalise a child’s outfit or toy. Sewing by hand can be relaxing and therapeutic, and it an also be sociable – much more so than machine sewing where you’re all sitting at your own (noisy) sewing machine. You can hand sew in the garden in summer, by the log fire in winter… You can take your project on holiday or to a friend’s house for an evening of stitching and…drinking gin!
The Hand Embroidery workshops are A PAIR of workshops, consisting of TWO HALF DAYS. You will make a hand embroidered needle case and co-ordinating scissor case.
DAY 1:
I will introduce both projects and teach you a range of different hand embroidery stitches which you’ll use to create a little booklet containing diagrams reminding you how to work the stitches. You’ll prepare your fabrics and the embroidery design – though the design suggested by me can be adapted if you wish. I’ll explain a little about embroidery threads and needles to help you understand their suitability.
AT HOME:
You will prepare BOTH items by completing the hand embroidery/stitching.
DAY 2:
You will assemble/finish off both items.
TIMES: Either 10am – 1pm or 2-5pm. Tea/coffee and biscuits provided.
COST: €50 for the PAIR of workshops.
SEWING MACHINES: Either bring your own or use one of mine.
MATERIALS: You’ll need to bring all the required materials to the workshop. Please contact me for further info about this.
