Dressmaking holidays

Bring a commercial dressmaking pattern ( maybe two), your fabric/s and “notions” and spend some time in my studio making up the garments. I’m on hand to give you help and/or guidance and encouragement.

This holiday is is called “Next step” AND “intermediate” because it depends on your experience. The holiday is 7 nights/6 days long, with 4 days in the Studio – see What is included?

This holiday assumes you choose patterns/garments suitable for your skill level and experience. We can “discuss” this by email and/or telephone before you select which patterns to bring.

Below is an example of how your week might be organised – it’s difficult with this sort of holiday – where you bring your own patterns/projects – so it really is just a rough idea:

STUDIO DAY 1 & 2 –  On your first day, I’ll make sure you’re familiar with my sewing machine so you’re used to it before you start making your garment/s. We’ll look at your pattern together, and the fabrics you’ve bought, and discuss any particular concerns you have. You’ll cut out the pattern if you’ve not already done so – this might involve me helping you with sizes/measurements – it’s up to you. In the afternoon you will cut out the fabric and start to make the garment.

STUDIO DAY 3 – A full day’s sewing where – of course, depending on the garment you’ve chosen, and its complexity – you’ll hopefully complete the first garment. .

STUDIO DAY 4 – Today you will start to make up your second garment.

Review for this holiday:

I attended a sewing workshop in July with Bronwen and it was a wonderful experience all round. Bronwen could not have been kinder or more accommodating – since it was only me attending she asked detailed questions about what I wanted to learn and my experiences beforehand so I could learn and sew exactly what I wanted! Under her expert and unfailingly patient guidance I produced two garments I couldn’t be happier with, and I learned so much that I now feel much more confident about tackling new projects. Accommodation was magical too – tucked away in the French countryside, you get to unwind and relax while having all the comfort you could wish for as Bronwen and John are amazing hosts – I felt welcome from the first minute. I only wish I could have stayed longer, but I’m very much hoping to come back next year to make up for that!
