Exploring Patchwork and Quilting

If you’ve always fancied having a go at patchwork and/or quilting, but have no idea where to start, this is the course for you… If you want to try out a range of different techniques, come along and learn some new skills to inspire your creativity…

This holiday is 7 nights/6 days long, with 4 days in the Studio and 2 days to relax or explore – see What is included?

This holiday assumes some knowledge of – or experience in –  using a sewing machine.

Techniques Covered:

  • simple patchwork using triangles
  • Log cabin quilt-as-you-go patchwork
  • Trapunto
  • Italian quilting
  • Kantha
  • English quilting

What you’ll make:

  • patchwork cushion cover
  • doorstop (which you’ll need to stuff at home because of the weight!)
  • lined Tote bag
  • eye mask and storage pouch

Below is an example of how your week might be organised:

STUDIO DAY 1 –  On your first day, you will make a patchwork cushion cover, using 4 different fabrics cut into triangles. It’s a fun project, and there’s a great sense of achievement when it comes together.

STUDIO DAY 2 –  I’ll introduce Log Cabin patchwork, and you’ll make a door-stop (to be stuffed at home because of the weight!)

STUDIO DAY 3 – Today you will start to make the lined tote bag, which will include 3 different quilting techniques: Trapunto, Kantha and Italian.

STUDIO DAY 4 – You will finish the tote bag – assembling the various sections, adding the lining and the straps, plus any final decoration such as beading or hand embroidery.
