Simple Patchwork

Spend a summer holiday in Italy learning to do patchwork a sewing machine and making a lap quilt to use yourself or as a gift…and maybe make the top of a second quilt using a different technique. Spend the morning in the sewing studio, have a leisurely lunch under the shade of a tree, shop in local markets – and return home revitalised and with a new skill!

This holiday is 7 nights/6 days long, with 4 mornings (each morning approx. 3 hours) – in the studio.

This holiday teaches the basics of patchwork using a sewing machine and assumes very little previous experience on a sewing machine You need to be able to sew fairly straight – that’s all!.

Techniques covered:

    • Patchwork with “Jelly Roll” strips
    • Joining accurately
    • Using a rotary cutter and self-healing mat
    • Attaching the wadding – simple quilting of the layers
    • Backing the quilt

WHAT YOU WILL MAKE:

    • My “Woodland Walk” design lap quilt
    • Depending on time, you might also EITHER
      • start a “Bargello” quilt ( and you’ll have full colour instructions to complete this at home afterwards) OR
      • start to make 2 cushions in my “Garden Maze” design, using the remaining jelly roll strips *you’ll have full colour instructions to complete them at home afterwards).
