Workshops introduction

I’m not currently planning any day or half day workshops in 2024 so there are no dates to publish – I’m focussing on developing my own creative work, and on residential holidays, instead. However, if you’re interested in any of the day/half day workshops I advertise, please do contact me.

My DAY and HALF DAY non-residential Textile/Sewing workshops take place in my dedicated studio at home.

All equipment is provided – modern, good quality sewing machines, scissors, pins etc.

Materials – Sometimes I provide fabrics and threads etc, but usually you’ll need to bring them with you.

Please note – minimum numbers of participants will apply to some of my workshops.

The workshops are suitable for:

  1. Complete beginners
  2. People who have some experience
  3. Experienced sewists

Complete beginners:

I am a teacher, so my aim is to teach you real, transferable skills. To give you confidence, so you can make things without my help. Hopefully to inspire you to learn more, to build on the skills I teach you. My “Beginners” classes are sewing machine based, intended for people who have no prior knowledge at all, or for people who have not used a sewing machine for many years.

People who have some experience:

These workshops will help you develop your existing skills, depending on your interests.

Experienced Sewists:

You might want to come along and learn a completely new textiles-related skill, such as felt making, free machine embroidery, eco-dyeing, boro, EPP, sewing leather, pattern drafting etc… Some of these workshops are suitable for beginners – felt making, for example.

DATES/TIMES:

Workshops are usually morning (10am – 1pm), afternoon (2pm – 5pm) or full day (10am – 5pm). Tea/coffee/ biscuits are provided for half-day classes. For full days you’ll need to bring a packed lunch, or pop out to the local bar, in Villastrada or Gioiella for lunch.

The “Beginners” and “Intermediate” workshops consist of a series of 4 sessions, where I teach you a range of skills. Other workshops are “Stand alone” workshops, where you come for a day or half day and either learn a new skill (e.g. Free Machine Embroidery) or make a project (e.g. make a Lap Quilt).

I usually set the times for the workshops once I’ve got an idea of who is interested, so I can fix days/times which are convenient for you as well as for me. This is not a hobby, it is a fully registered business, so it’s important that I fix dates which work for my students, instead of just randomly picking dates that work for me!

COSTS:

The costs vary depending on the workshop, but are around €25 for half a day.

The cost of the workshop includes any patterns used, plus – for most workshops – a full colour PowerPoint instructions file, emailed to you after the workshop. These instructions/patterns are of the type I sell in my Etsy shop for around €8-€12, but are included in the cost of the workshop.
