Had a great day creating samples for the “Beginners’ workshops which start in October… I wanted to create interesting products, but really the emphasis is on learning important foundation skills ready for making more complicated products and garments. Each task builds on the previous one and includes a range of different skills. For example, accurately stitching and turning right angles is important if, for example, you want to create a jacket or shirt… Stitching, trimming and turning curves neatly and symmetrically is challenging, but vital if you want to make something with a curved collar… Appliqué is such a useful skill in terms of machine control, so I’ve included this right at the start, on this linen tea cloth. I just need to prepare a few different patterns now, so there are more options than birds.
