I’m lucky in that my job has always involved indulging my love of buying fabrics and haberdashery! When I first started making Christening wear, I loved driving to the warehouse in Leeds and the mill in Bradford to buy my fabric and ribbons by the roll… When I was a teacher, I loved browsing online to order supplies at the end of the summer term, to stock my classroom for September… Today, I’ve ordered fabrics ready for my new regular workshops, starting in September and October. The Intermediate group will focus on using more challenging fabrics, so I’ve ordered velvet, corduroy, silk and water resistant rip stop nylon. I’ll also be encouraging them to keep a notebook of fabric swatches, with names and properties, plus specific sewing info. written next to them, so in the next few days I’m hoping to sort out some samples of silk satin and silk velvet to start them off.
My favourite order of today? Turquoise Harris tweed…..
