This afternoon I introduced commercial dressmaking patterns to my beginners, explaining the pattern markings, how to cut out the pattern, how to lay it on the fabric correctly. I also showed them how to do buttonholes. They’re cutting out their first garment – pyjama bottoms – at home, ready for next week’s workshop. Later in the afternoon they made a drawstring bag – as a sort of reminder of how to do various fundamental processes, and to remind them how important accuracy is when piecing fabrics together – in readiness for making the pyjama bottoms. The 4 bags made are all really creative and, as always, all very different in style!
