I rarely use commercial patterns – I’m more interested in designing my own – but a friend lent this one to me because I loved the two tops she made from it, plus the one made by another friend, from the same pattern. I try to make myself follow the instructions, too, instead of just ditching them and using my experience, but sometime I struggle with that!
It’s a lovely pattern, with centre front and sleeve tucks, but having changed the neckline I still think it needs to be altered a little – I’ve got a narrow back and necklines are hard to get right on yourself! I also think that although I love the sleeves, I’m not used to so much volume in them and next time I’ll take some of that volume out. I do think it’s good, though, to follow commercial patterns from time to time.
