I know that some people think of sewing as a woman’s hobby, not a man’s, but I couldn’t agree less! It’s just like any other practical skill – it can be an enjoyable hobby or a VERY useful talent… You can make cushions and curtains for the home… Doorstops, protective aprons and overalls… You can make presents for friends, family and for yourself. You don’t need much in the way of equipment and it doesn’t take up too much room.
Over the last two years I’ve run “Beginners'” and “Intermediate” sewing classes (and residential holidays) and they’ve been popular and successful but so far I’ve been disappointed in that NO men have come along to my classes. Therefore, this year (Sept/Oct 2018) I’m really hoping I can get a group of men together who want to learn to sew. I’m most definitely NOT saying men can’t join my other Sewing Workshops, I just wonder if some men would prefer to be in a group with other men, especially for the first couple of lessons…
Also – from my experience in UK schools – I know different projects will appeal to men and to women, so I’m adapting my successful “Beginners'” course slightly, and changing the projects made, thought not the skills taught!
The first 4 workshops – vital in building skills – include 2 types of cushion, an iPad/kindle case and….. I’m not 100% sure yet but possibly a door stop…
If you’re even vaguely interested do email me and give me some feedback, please:
Thanks! Bronwen
