Slow stitching… Of all the hand stitched projects, I think EPP Patchwork (English Paper Pieced) is the most relaxing. That doesn’t mean I’d ever feel I would want to attempt to make a double bedspread using this method of patchwork, though plenty of people do (see below). I’m new to this craft, and I’m enjoying making small projects… I’m enjoying the process of stitching, the repetition, the rhythm. It really is, to me, the perfect kind of Mindful Sewing…as long as I’m wearing extra strong reading glasses!
So, if you fancy learning a new Textile craft – where you can use up all your stash of fabrics/saved old clothes instead of buying fabrics in especially… If you want to sit in the sunshine or by the log fire and sew and listen to music or the afternoon play… If you want to transport your sewing project to your friend’s house for an afternoon of chatting and sewing…this is the project for you. Can’t you tell, I’m a recent convert?!
You’ll make a pincushion (or lavender bag) out of EPP hexagons, and a drawstring bag appliquéd with EPP hexagons. Then you’ll start to make either another drawstring bag – this time made entirely of hexis – or an infinity scarf trimmed with mini hexis, or have a go at a more challenging geometric design, suitable for turning into a range of small items. The day, though, is mainly about:
- Learning a completely new skill
- Relaxing and slow stitching, instead of rushing to finish something.
TIMES: 10am – 5pm. Tea/coffee and biscuits provided but you’ll need to bring a packed lunch.
COST: €30
SEWING MACHINES: Either bring your own or use one of mine.
MATERIALS: You’ll need to bring all the required materials to the workshop. Please contact me for further info about this.
