Today’s “Open Sewing” workshop was fun! One lady was learning to do Bargello patchwork and produced this stunning lap quilt top. Someone else made a double sided apron, creatively using part of a tea towel as a decorative band across the front. It’s a really useful design – when it’s finished it will have a detachable tea towel at the front, for wiping your hands while cooking! The third person – yes, it was just a group of 3 today – worked on two different dresses… We added a section to the sleeves of a dress she made last month – the original pattern had absolutely tiny sleeves – not enough for a and to fit through properly!
We added triangular shaped godets so that the fit at the armhole remained the same. She had prepared another dress at home – it has beautiful pleats at both the front and the back. So, today she created the side seam pockets, which were constructed in a rather complicated way but which look fabulous now they’re done. She also dod the shoulders, side seams, and prepared the sleeves, ready to set in at home… So, a very productive day all round!

Thanks for your enquiry. I usually get together a list of people who are interested, find out what dates are convenient and then fix a date. At this point in the year, I’ve already run a few Bargello w/shops and so far you’re the only person who has shown an interested after my recent ad. However, I’m running Log Cabin patchwork on the afternoons of 8th May and 15th May and you could join me then? Depending where you live, two half days might not appeal – please let me know if that’s the case; I usually run the Bargello w/shop as one whole day. However, it’s a busy day and people generally only get to the stage where the patchwork top is complete, then finish it off at home – for that reason I generally run it as a sort of “second” quilt w/shop – so I’m confident people would know how to finish it off themselves. If, however, you wanted to come for the two half days, I can more easily help you get to the stage where I can also help you finish it. Let me know what you think of this idea – perhaps you could tell me what – if any – experience you have and how far away you live? You don’t need much experience, but a little – for this particular quilt – helps. If this idea doesn’t appeal, and you’d rather come for a whole day, please say! I could then look at the diary and find a date when I’m running a full day workshop and we can arrange for you to come along then instead.(For example, I’m running a residential p/work week in June and often open odd days on residential holidays to local people who just want to join us for a day).
