Here’s my latest Sewing Holiday Review:
I went on a sewing holiday to Umbria in October. It combined my love of Italy with my interest in sewing and textiles. There was a perfect balance between time spent in the studio and time spent sightseeing and relaxing.
Bronwen was an excellent teacher and I learnt many new skills that I will be able to take forward at home and build on. I returned to the UK having made two gorgeous skirts and a dress. As well as learning how to use patterns and to make clothes, there was plenty of time for eating pasta and ice-cream and visiting the nearby towns.
Bronwen and John were wonderful hosts and they could not have been more welcoming and helpful. Their house is a short drive from Castiglione del Lago which overlooks Lake Trasimeno. I loved having coffee in the piazza there and shopping at the Wednesday market. I enjoyed watching lovely sunsets while having cocktails right by Lake Trasimeno.
The accommodation was beautiful, especially the tranquil swimming pool area and the olive grove. The setting of the property was beautiful, with views over Lake Chiusi. I miss having my morning coffee on the balcony overlooking that. There was a takeaway pizza restaurant nearby which I thoroughly recommend trying. The villa is perfectly located on the border with Tuscany to explore places like Cortona and Pienza and Montepulciano.”
Photos show the completed garments (two skirts and dungaree dress) plus one skirt in progress, in the studio. Also – the sunset on our way home from Montepulciano, Castiglione del Lago Wednesday market, and one of the beautiful buildings in Pienza.
