I started to experiment with machined “Sashiko” stitching last weekend, using variegated threads and different fabrics and leather. I intended to make a more practical Kinchaku, and started experimenting with this in mind. So far I’ve finished one of them – the one made out of cotton drill and linen fabrics. It isn’t made quite how I planned to make it, but the finished product does more or less look how I had in mind! I’ve just used a decorative braid for the strap so far – I intend to change it, but I’m stuck for ideas.
The zip didn’t work how I wanted it to, so I’ve used a magnetic frame and am really pleased about that, cause it’s something different for me. Now I’m tor between making the leather version in the same way, or doing a completely different design!
