Here’s the “Kinchaku” I started to make yesterday afternoon. It has a different Sashiko embroidery design on each of the two sides, the other two sides are a plain red and the base is navy blue cotton velvet. It’s lined with a plain navy silky fabric for the sides and a richly patterned silk for the base. The drawstring is white suede which unfortunately sheds, so I need to replace that.
The circles pattern is called “Shippo Tsunagi”, the other is called “Ishidatami”.
It can be used open, as a basket, or with the drawstring pulled, as a little bag. It’s ready for a workshop, where the decorative panel can be made from any appropriate technique – it doesn’t have to be hand-stitched Sashiko.
