We have a “trial” Textile Holiday guest arriving tomorrow, so it’s prompted us to do a few necessary jobs… I was very uncertain about the type of lighting I wanted in my studio – I hate choosing lighting because you can’t tell what it will be like until it’s installed! I wanted my studio to be bright not only during the day but in the evening, and when the shutters are closed against the summer heat. I almost went for panel lights, but in the end chose those that are suspended from wire – and I’m delighted with them!
Having a “real” guest also helps when thinking of comfort and abilities… I decided to add a tea/coffee making station, because the guest was staying in the room straight off the studio on the ground floor, and the kitchen is on the first floor. I realised I still hadn’t shortened the voile curtains, because I can’t decide whether to keep them or put lace panels up instead! Unfortunately, it’s too late to alter them now, so I hope she forgives me and understands that I’m just indecisive! There have been oh so many decisions to make in recent months!
We still haven’t made the decision regarding separating the garden for guests, but luckily she has stayed with us twice before, when we were based in France, and knows – loves! – our dogs. So, we are keeping the garden open at the moment because one of the things I want to learn from the holiday is what works well and what needs changing. We did, though, gravel the garden along the front of the house, making it look much smarter than with the grass, which has not done well in the heatwave.
