Today is our Wedding Anniversary, and since it was a glorious day, with the bluest sky, we decided to have a drive out, through the Val d’Orcia to Montalcino. Montalcino is famous for its red wine – the Brunello di Montalcino and the less expensive Rosso di Montalcino – both are, in my opinion – delicious! It’s a hilltop town in Tuscany, between here and Siena, and there are spectacular views, quaint streets, cafes and little shops. We had coffee and croissant to start the day – and to top up my energy from my morning run!
In Montalcino, there’s a wonderful artisan weaver La Luna Nuova although unfortunately it was closed today. Weaving is something I’d love to learn… Years ago, John bought me a gorgeous waistcoat from this shop. Today I had to settle for peering in through the window…
We wandered around for a while, enjoying the views and browsing in the shops, and got caught up in a wedding! We were in the tourist information centre and as we started to leave there was a cheer and from nowhere a crowd seemed to appear, and started to throw rice… We hastily retreated back into the TIC for a while, so as not to spoil the photos…but I thought it was quite appropriate, given that it was our anniversary. A short time later we came across the wedding car.
It was very hot indeed, so we had a simple lunch in a shaded side street, before setting off home…
